| Image sources
One of the most important functionalities of a Digital Image Management System is the efficient and optimised image acquisition. This process should be transparent to the user, irrespective of the image source used to generate his image, be it a digital microscope camera, flash card of a digital consumer camera, electron microscope, specialised scanner or an existing image file. The only thing which is important is a generic, unified and intuitive user interface, a centralised image storage system providing automated file name and path allocation, as well as the recording of all acquisition-relevant meta data, allowing the user to concentrate on his scientific or routine work.
